SCRATCH encourages students to discover and learn about computing and software and development.  It is a visual programming language that makes it easy to create interactive stories, animations, games, music and art and share these creations on the web.  SCRATCH helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaborative.

The children have used the free app SCRATCH JR on the iPads to practice coding as well as using SCRATCH on the laptops.  These are some of their thoughts on what they have learnt.

“SCRATCH is fun to learn and to play with.”

“We learnt how to write scripts, sometimes they don’t work the way you want so you have to change them and keep trying.”

“We have learnt how to make new sprites.  (A sprite is like a character.)  We know how to write a script to change the colour of the sprites and make them bigger or smaller.”
