The St. Matthew’s Pre-School opened in September 2013 on the grounds of St. Matthew’s National School. It is comprised of one class, the year before Primary School with a ratio of 11:1. Jackie Earley is the fabulous teacher. The class operates from 9am – 12.30pm (9.30am – 12.30pm ECCE only) alongside the Primary School Calendar.

Dr Maria Montessori devised a method of early childhood education which was specifically designed to meet the basic needs of the child and help develop the child as a total human being.

At St. Matthew’s preschool we provide a home from home environment in which each child can learn and grow in independence and confidence, through a fun play-based curriculum, within the framework of the Montessori philosophy and ethos. Through following the individual interests and needs of each child, we endeavor to encourage them in order that they reach the full potential of their cognitive, social, emotional, spiritual and physical development. We place a strong emphasis in the preschool on the child’s own creativity and on the wonders of nature and the natural environment. Our aim is to give each child the best possible start at this most important stage in their development within a happy and caring environment.
