St. Matthew’s National School

Green Schools

Welcome to the Green Schools Blog! Have you ever thought about the number of paper towels you use every day or how much electricity you use every hour? Well, that’s our job: to reduce those amounts here in St. Matthew’s, and to do even more to help make the world a greener place. Here you can find information about what our school does for the environment.

The Green School Committee is a great thing to be part of. We get to represent our class and participate in lots of fun green activities. Our Green School election took place in October. Everybody had great speeches, but, in the end, we had one representative in 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th and two in 3rd and 6th. Each representative is eager to represent its class and make this school greener than it’s ever been before!

As the Green Schools Committee. it is our job to come up with ideas to make this school greener but it’s also our job to listen to others. Some of our aims for this year are: Beach clean ups, Stop using plastic bottles, support more animals in need and plant more flowers and vegetables.

In St. Matthew’s we are already at work trying to make our school greener. We are participating in Picker Pals. Each week a few families take home a picker pal set that contains litter pickers, gloves and more. Then they send us pictures of them picking up the litter which we put on our Green Wall. We have also planted flowers such as hyacinths, daffodils and more beautiful flowers. We are also planning to plant vegetables in our yard.

Lastly, we would like to remind everyone to stay green and do your bit for the planet. There is NO Planet B!!!
