Extra-Curricular

Choir:

St Matthew’s School Choir under the direction of Ms. Fallows meets once a week after school to develop their vocal skills.

The choir performs at various school events throughout the year such as assembles, carol services, and end-of-year services. The main performance of the St Matthew’s School Choir is the Peace Proms. The Peace Proms Cross Border Orchestra is an event that sees 1000’s of children from all over Ireland perform alongside an orchestra to a selection of well-rehearsed songs. The School Choir spends many months rehearsing these songs and accompanying actions. St Matthew’s Choir is open to all pupils from 3rd Class and upwards.

Basketball:

Basketball at St Matthew’s has elevated in recent years thanks to all our coaches under the watchful eye of Mick. Basketball training is split into Junior and Senior groups. The Junior group (1st-3rd) trains in the schoolyard on Mondays and the Senior group (4th-6th) trains in the schoolyard on Tuesdays. Basketball is open to all children of St Matthew’s; from beginner to club level. 6th class players work towards competing in an inter-school league, where St Matthew’s have experienced plenty of success in recent years.

Hockey:

St Matthews has a strong history of hockey throughout the years. With such high demand in the school, training is split once again into Junior and Senior Groups. Mr Mc Andrew organises the training session to ensure the development of skill across the years. Training takes place in Pembroke Hockey Club every Monday (Seniors) and Thursday (Juniors). New players are welcome to join, all that is required is a stick, gum shield, and shin guards.
