5th Class so far this term

Here are some highlights from 5th Class so far this term. We hope you enjoy reading them!

5th Class

This year when school started everything was different. We had no homework because of corona virus but the school was still fun! We have to keep a meter though and we were in different pods which was a annoying, but outside was fun. We always switched yards now. We started to do long devision. It was a nightmare! 2 weeks later again we started planning for Halloween.

This term so far I have enjoyed the music lessons. We learned about the piano, violin, viola, electric guitar, cello, double bass, classical guitar and the acoustic guitar. One Lesson Mr. McAndrew brought in his electric guitar and his Amp. He showed us what all the pedals were for and what they did. Some of us got play it!

A few weeks ago we learned about friction in Science. We learned about how paper airplanes move. Then we all made paper airplanes and we got to have a competition on who’s paper airplane flew the furthest.

Over the last few weeks we have been doing projects groups. We have been doing projects on our local area. Each group are doing different things like the Poolbeg Lighthouses, business’s and Irish Sports. At the moment we are in progress of presenting all of them and the ones I have listened to so far are really interesting with lots of facts that I did not know.

During the first few weeks of 5th Class we had been learning how to do perspective drawings. We used shading and different lines to draw pictures.

Fifth Class so far has been great fun!

In fifth class this year, we have been very lucky to get Roisín Upton to visit are school. when she came we got to ask her lots of questions and she told us about what it was like to play for the Irish hockey team and be a key part to Ireland’s second place success in The Hockey World Cup.
In science this term we learned about levers and how they work and we made catapults at home and went into school to find out who’s catapult would go the longest distance it was great fun and it was a great activity (my catapult went the longest distance:) ) .
In Gaeilge this term, we have been focusing on putting Irish verbs into the past present and future tense by putting in all the rules for it to make sense. We have made up some funny sentences and stories.
This year in Geography we have been doing project works and have been presenting are projects on Irish sports, houses, Poolbeg, Sandymount, Ballsbridge and many more. I know we all really enjoy it.
In Maths this year we are learning about long division and it is very interesting. It can be quiet confusing but we have all been working really hard to try master it. Mr McAndrew has a rhyme that we use to remember the steps: Does every McDonalds sell awesome burgers? and it helps a lot.
In English this term, we had been doing hyperbole which is when you make something very silly and funny with exaggeration.
PE in school recently has been really exciting because have been doing the bleep test. The bleep test is when you have to run to each side each time and you have to get there before you here the bleep goes off. You have to run non stop for as long as you can!
